West Gippsland Destinations
Amidst bucolic farmland you’ll find the region’s civic centre of Warragul, a town humming with cafes and boasting heritage streetscapes, tree-lined streets and open, grassy spaces. Just down the highway, Yarragon has deluge of shops and galleries to potter and browse, full of cafes with cosy nooks.
Heading up into the foothills, the countryside gives way to dense mountain ash forests. Nestled in a deep valley is the picture-perfect gold-mining town of Walhalla, like something out of a fairytale. You can ride the train, take a tour in the gold mine or a spooky evening ghost tour.
Mt Baw Baw is Melbourne’s closest downhill ski resort, coming alive in the winter months for skiers and snowboarders, a dedicated toboggan run and terrain parks. Over the green season, the mountain is a Mecca for mountain bikers and hikers through the snow gums and alpine meadows.
The mountain town of Noojee is surrounded by lush fern glades, waterfalls and dense bushlands, woven with walks and a historical trestle bridge.
