15km | Rokeby - Neerim | Weave through tantalising countryside and vivid green hills, taking in the views of the dreamy Tarago Reservoir and Crossover Regional Park.

Enjoy the fresh air and gorgeous greenery on this nature-loving, shady trail. The track is part of the original Warragul to Noojee rail line. Pass through lush native forest into Crossover Regional Park and onwards to Neerim South. Travel back in time with a glimpse of a historic trestle bridge at Crossover. A highlight is Apex Lookout (just out of Neerim South) with dreamy views over the Tarago Reservoir.

The horse girls are welcome to bring their loyal steeds for an old-fashioned trail ride. There are lots of picnic areas along the way if you need to stop for a rest. Dogs are also welcome on lead.

Start: Rokeby Common, Rokeby. The trail head is located at the corner of Lavinia St and Ash Grove

Rokeby to Crossover

4km | 45 mins one way

Walk through verdant ferns and ancient forest, starting in Rokeby and winding your way towards Crossover. Here you will experience history by following the old Warragul to Noojee rail line, built between 1890 and 1919, and closed in the 1950s. Listen out for the long ago whistle of the steam trains as they trundled over the rustic trestle bridge.

Keep an eye out for round-bottomed wombats, fluffy wallabies and elusive lyrebirds as you walk or bike your way along the trail.

Crossover to Neerim South

4.2km | 50 mins one way

Marvel at the Crossover trestle bridge before heading onwards towards Neerim South. This part of the trail winds through lush green pastures and rolling hills. Don’t forget to stop and admire the Neerim Bower sculpture on the way into Neerim South. Here you can take a short detour to the Neerim South Wetland or stop off for a quick coffee in town or refill your bottle at the water fountain.

Neerim South to Apex Lookout

5km | 1.2 hrs one way

From the sweet little village of Neerim South, continue north along the trail until you reach the Apex Lookout, at the edge of Neerim. From this prime position, take in views of the Tarago Reservoir, framed by the slopes of the Great Dividing Range.

Surrounded by a patchwork of charming farms and dense native bushland, this is the perfect spot to rest and take a few (or a hundred) photos. Here you can also refill your water bottle, before continuing on to finish the trail.

Rokeby Flora & Fauna Rail Trail

1km | 20 mins one way

Tucked away before the start of the main trail is a quick little bonus trail that is well worth the extra time. This one-kilometre track is the best place to look for birds and local wildlife. In the Rokeby Flora and Fauna Reserve you will find the rare Strzelecki Gum and vivid pink common heath. If you visit between spring and autumn, you might glimpse the Imperial White Butterfly.
