By car or coach
If you’re coming from Melbourne, Gippsland is most easily accessed from the Monash Freeway (M1) which becomes the Princes Highway (M1/ A1), passing through Warragul, Traralgon, Sale, Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance. From the Princes Highway you can turn-off north to access the high country including Mt Baw Baw, Dargo and Omeo.
The southern coastline is accessed by with the Bass Highway (M420) or the South Gippsland Highway (A440).
If you’re travelling between Melbourne and Sydney, consider taking things slow along the Melbourne to Sydney Coastal Drive, which passes through Gippsland’s belly on an easy drive along the Princes Highway (M1/ A1).
By public transport
V/Line operates rail services to the region on the Gippsland line, terminating at either Traralgon or Bairnsdale (with bus connection to Lakes Entrance). Bus services travel to Yarram via Leongatha, and to Phillip Island or Inverloch via Koo Wee Rup.
