Under a canopy of mountain ash in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range lies the town of Noojee.

Taking its name from the Aboriginal word for ‘resting place’, Noojee offers just that. While the town was once a thriving timber town, today it is known as a tranquil place to unwind and get close to nature.

Things to do in Noojee

Pack a picnic and head for the character-filled Noojee Trestle Bridge. The impressive wooden trestle bridge is also the starting point for a number of walking points and cycling tracks that carve through the towering forest. This is the starting point for the short and sweet Noojee Trestle Bridge Rail Trail (3km one way) through scenic bushland, ending at the Noojee Railway Station Precinct.
Take a trip back in time as you wander the Noojee Railway Station Precinct, complete with a replica of the original Noojee Railway Station or climb aboard the steam train (for the train buffs, that's a 1950s J Class locomotive).
The fish are always biting at the Alpine Trout Farm (rods and bait are supplied). Make the most of the scenic surrounds and cook up your catch of trout or salmon to enjoy onsite. Be sure to stock up on the smoked trout, caviar and salmon that will make your return home that bit more delicious.
Just out of town is the stunning Toorongo & Amphitheatre Falls. Take a mossy, ferny walk through tranquil forest by the trickling (and sometimes gushing) river and take in two falls on the loop walk.

The Alpine Trout Farm is an experience unlike any other. Catch your own trout or salmon, and cook it up right there on the BBQ. Afterwards, stop in for coffee and brunch at quintessential country café, The Little Red Duck Café, in the centre of Noojee.

There's nothing like a genuine country pub or two to match the backdrop of the bush in the foothills of the Baw Baw Ranges. The Toolshed Bar, Bistro & Cabins serves hearty pub favourites in a rustic setting, with an epic open fire and a selection of nine parmas. That’s right, nine.

Or try The Noojee Hotel (or “Nooj Pub” if you want to fit in with the locals) which has a huge balcony overlooking scenic bushland and the river.

Nearby Walking & Cycling

Noojee's surrounding bushland means an abundance of walking trails. Set out on the Toorongo Falls & Amphitheatre Loop Walk and spot 2 waterfalls on your circuit. The Noojee Trestle Bridge Rail Trail is short and sweet, connecting the iconic trestle bridge to the town centre. A little further afield, you can take in more forested walks on the Ada Tree Rainforest Walk or the Glen Nayook Rainforest Walk.
