In the winter months, the mountain gets a healthy dump of that fluffy white stuff, opening the resort to skiers and boarders. Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort gets the Guernsey for closest downhill ski resort to Melbourne. It has an intimate village feel making it popular for families, complete with toboggan runs and skiing/ boarding learner areas.

Seven lifts are in operation for boarders and skiers to explore the peaks across 25 runs, and thrills (and spills) can be found in the large terrain park to practice jumps and tricks.

• The Village Central Restaurant & Bar serves dinner with a view of the snow
• Bounce on the year-round inground trampolines (big kids welcome too)

Once the snow clears, the tracks and trails make for brilliant walking and mountain biking. In spring the ground is blanketed in native wildflowers. The thigh-challenging trek to the summit is well worth the effort, affording jaw-dropping views. You may even be rewarded with views of the Bass Coast on a clear day - a claim no other Australian ski resort can make.
