The splendour of the Baw Baw National Park extends to the mountainous towns of Erica and Rawson.

Set in the valleys of dense Australian bush, these small towns offer a glimpse into alpine life, and are the stepping-off points for 4WD adventures, epic hikes and mountain biking bliss.

Things to do in Erica & Rawson

  • With national parks and an abundance of walks on the doorstep, these towns make a great base for getting in touch with your nature-loving side.
  • The nearby Thomson River offers kayak and white water rafting opportunities with some low grade rapids.
  • Hit the 30+ kilometres of trails at the Erica Mountain Bike Park, and tackle "Crazy Snake", "Bones" or "Axeman".
  • If you’re hitting the slopes of Mt Baw Baw or taking to the trails of Mt St Gwinear in winter, you can hire ski gear and toboggans in Erica.
  • In Rawson, take the short, 500m walk around Rawson Crater Lake for a tranquil lakeside walk among an abundance of native bird and wildlife.
  • Nearby you can take the Mushroom Rocks Walk (3km return, 2 hours), leading you to a cluster of granite boulders rising from the forest bed.
  • Explore the picture-perfect heritage town of Walhalla and soak up a history lesson on the Victorian goldfields.

Four Wheel Driving around Erica

This rugged mountainside is begging to be explored by 4x4 Mountain Top Experience offer tag-along tours through the area, down slippery trails with a dash of gold rush history for good measure. Erica makes a fantastic launching point for South Face Road Four Wheel Drive or Aberfeldy Four Wheel Drive.

Nestled in the relaxed village of Erica at the foothills of Mt Baw Baw, the Erica Hotel Motel is a family-run country pub offering hearty meals made with fresh local produce and a unique Bushman's Museum. Or stop into the Erica Café & Bar for the winning combo of cocktails and cake.
