This enchanting place is known for its forested gullies, peaceful picnic spots and elusive native orchids.

In the northern foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges, just south of Morwell, lies the Morwell National Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The park is excellent walking country, with trails winding beneath towering mountain grey gums
  • Explore changing landscapes from dry eucalypt forests formed by towering mountain grey gums and blackwood trees, to lush fern gullies alongside playful streams
  • Discover why the park has cult-status for orchid lovers, from the pocket sized bird orchids to the sprawling hyacinth orchid, delicate pink fingers and the rarely-seen butterfly orchids
  • Upon every visit to this national park, it is a near guarantee of spotting a cuddly koala lazily going about its day

WALKING

There are a number of short walks that can be ticked off within an hour. Explore the flats along Billys Creek and the old weir, and a number of thigh-challenging ridge climbs resulting in spectacular views.

Try the circuit walk Fosters Gully Nature Trail through grey gum and stringybark forests where you may spot a lyrebird hiding in the undergrowth.

The 100km Grand Strzelecki Walking Track connects magical Morwell and Tarra Bulga National Parks, dipping through pockets of rainforest valleys and crossing peaceful farmlands.
