Nature & parks

The wide open parklands of Gippsland Immigration Park is a scenic place to relax, but it also tells the story of the contribution of immigration to the town’s multicultural identity. Take the Heritage Walk around the park, starting from the Wall of Recognition. More than 70 points of interest tell the story of the surrounds, from Gurnaikurnai history to the rich multiculturalism of today.

Heralding the western entrance to town, Morwell Centenary Rose Garden offers a perfumed oasis of 3,500 roses in garden beds accessed by windy paths. The garden never closes and is free to enter.

The gently ascending Grand Ridge Rail Trail traverses hilly countryside, forested areas and takes in two delightful arch bridges on its 13km journey between Boolarra and Mirboo North.

Inconspicuously nestled between the Mid Valley Shopping Centre and Village Cinemas, Cafe Qu Bah exceeds expectations as it seamlessly takes you from decadent French toast for brunch, through to sizzling seafood or pork belly for your pre-movie date.

Light and bright newcomer, The Daily Café & Foodstore, has a tempting cabinet stocked full of fresh and tasty rolls, salads, quiche and pastries, plus a coffee window for those on the go.

Accessibility

The Morwell Centenary Rose Garden has winding concrete paths that provide wheelchair access. There is an accessible toilet is located at the southern end of the garden.

The Latrobe Regional Gallery is wheelchair friendly.

The Gippsland Heritage Walk is 1.1km around Lake Kernot. There is space for side-by-side travel, turning and passing with a wheelchair. The 1.3-metre-wide concrete footbridge has a short moderate slope. Manual wheelchair users may require assistance. Surfaces are sealed or compacted gravel, smooth firm and flat. There is accessible parking and toilets at Kernot Hall.
