Like so many towns in Gippsland, Yarram is set in deep green countryside, dotted with contented cows grazing on the lush slopes.

Locked between the Tarra Bulga National Park, Wilsons Promontory and the Ninety Mile Beach, Yarram is surrounded by Gippsland’s wild beauty. The town is a large commercial centre for the coastal communities, and yet retains a relaxed pace thanks to attractive gardens and green spaces.

Things to do in Yarram

Heritage buildings line the main street, flanking a wide, leafy median strip. Perhaps the most splendid are the Regent Theatre and the Yarram Courthouse Gallery, an art space with ever-changing exhibitions.
Yarram is the start/end point of the Great Southern Rail Trail, running all the way to Nyora on Melbourne's fringe, but there's also a short branchline (14km) to Port Albert, known as the Tarra Trail. This section is an excellent ride for families.
Boutique clothing, gifts and curio stores are a delight to wander as you stroll about the town.
Head to Tarra Trail Reserve for tranquil wetlands abounding with picnic areas and shelters, a pump track and small playground in the adjacent block.
A short drive away, you will find the stunning cool temporate rainforest of Tarra Bulga National Park, bathed in emerald hues. It's the perfect place for a walk or picnic.
Venture south to reach the coast and find Victoria's oldest port, Port Albert, lavished with heritage buildings, a generous grassy foreshore and some of the best fish and chips around.

Coffee aficionados take note! Be your preference Ethiopian, Brazilian or Columbian - The Bean Pedlar in Yarram roasts coffee on-site from all over the world, to enjoy in the café or at home.

Nearby, uber-cool Café Aga serves up a great coffee, and brunch favourites, while the historic Yarram Coffee Palace has had a glow up under new ownership, it's the perfect place to catch up in a cosy booth seat.

Soak up the charm and rich maritime history of nearby Port Albert. It doesn’t get much fresher than the fish at Port Albert Fish & Chip Co, caught by their own family fishing fleet.

A short drive north to Willung South sits the luxurious Carrajung Estate, an idyllic oasis that boasts a fine dining restaurant, relaxing accommodation and enviable cellar door. This dreamy destination is worth an extended stay.

Aboriginal heritage

White Womans Waterhole in the Won Wron State Forest, is one of the sites of significance on the Bataluk Cultural Trail. It commemorates the tragedies of massacres of Aboriginal people following rumours of a white woman who was held captive by Gurnaikurnai people in the mid 1800s.
