Sprawling lazily along Australia’s southern coast are the beaches of Central Gippsland.

This nook of heaven is the perfect place to recharge the internal battery.

Fishing and camping options are abundant, and washing off the work week is best achieved in the crystal clear blue water of these beaches. The majority of this stretch of coastline is comprised of the waters of Ninety Mile Beach, and two national parks: The Lakes National Park and Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park.

Highlights of Central Gippsland Beaches

  • Head to Golden Beach and look out for the remnants of the Trinculo Shipwreck. All that remains is her iron spine sticking out of the sand after she ran aground due to bad weather in 1858.
  • Set up camp by the soothing sound of waves in Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park at Paradise Beach, the Honeysuckles and Golden Beach, or live out your boujee dreams and reach campsites only accessible by boat at Bunga Arm, Red Bluff and Spoon Bay.
  • Loch Sport is a popular place for swimming and general beachiness, with plenty of accommodation options.
  • Check out Mcloughlin’s Beach jetty at low tide to see the local fisherfolk returning home in their tinnies, accompanied by hungry waders and seabirds.
  • Stay dry and still soak up all the beauty of this region along the Christopher Robinson Walking Trail, that follows the coastline through mangroves with views across Corner Inlet.
  • Get all the rewards without the hard work along the 1km Mcloughlins and Ninety Mile Beach Walk boardwalk, featuring a bird feeding inlet and a remote and wild stretch of beach.
