These two peaceful towns lie side-by-side, separated from Moe only by the snaking bends of Narracan Creek.

Newborough is a peaceful country town and the quieter sibling of Moe. Yallourn was established to service the Yallourn Power Station back in the day. Many of the houses and buildings were relocated to neighbouring towns alongside the expansion of the open cut brown coal mine in the 1980s.

These towns have prime position next to mighty national parks, tranquil reserves and shimmering lakes and rivers, that stir the hearts of watersports enthusiasts, campers and bushwalkers.

Nature

Yallourn is home to the Haunted Hills Bike Park, 13km of progressive trails, catering for beginners through to Level Gnarly. There’s a pump track and a kids trail too.

From the Yallourn Power Station you can take the easy 8.5km Moe-Yallourn Rail Trail passing through the countryside to the Moe Botanic Gardens. A highlight of the trail is passing Lake Narracan, a watersporting playground, perfect for jet skiing, water skiing and fishing with its two boat ramps.

Take a peaceful walk through the remnant bushland that fringes Moe’s outer reaches at Edward Hunter Bush Reserve. The walk winds around a dam and wetlands, past squabbling water hens, and weaves through forest laiden with wildflowers and native orchids.

A little further afield is Blue Rock Lake, a hub of activity for watersports, boating and fishing. The scenic area can be explored on a number of bushwalks.

The beauty of the Moondarra State Park can be accessed from a number of bushwalks (some are also suitable for mountain biking). Enjoy a lazy day fishing or pitch a tent on the banks of the Tyers River at the Seninis Visitor Area.

Danbo’s Café has earned a loyal following for its friendly service, excellent coffee and standout toasties. It's the kind of place where locals linger and visitors feel instantly welcome.

Fat Cat Coffee Roasters supply some of Gippsland's favourite cafes - drop into the roastery for a freshly brewed taste.

Not too far away in Moe, behind their exotic arched windows, Tommy Brock Café take your favourites - think pulled brisket eggs benedict, or crispy prawn tacos with a cold Corona.

Also in Moe, Twenty20 Tapas is your go-to coffee window by day but by night, it's all bold share plates and cocktails. The baked gnocchi with lamb ragu is rich, comforting and not to be missed. Penny Lane Wine Bar serves up Gippsland wines, great cocktails, woodfired pizzas and tapa-style snacks that keep the tables full and glasses clinking.

Step back in time to 1850s Gippsland at Moe's Old Gippstown, telling the story of early European settlement at the open-air museum. See the collection of original relocated buildings and vehicles, on this family-friendly experience.
