35.5 - 52.8km, 3–4 days | Wilsons Promontory National Park | Embark on this epic multi-day circuit, through forest gullies, untouched beaches and the rarely-seen lighthouse.
This circuit, also known as the ‘Great Prom Walk’, offers the best of everything at Victoria's most loved national park.
Enjoy beaches, hidden coves, view from Kersops Peak, sunrises and sunsets. Say hi to the locals including wallabies, emus, wombats, kangaroos and yellow-tail black cockatoos. It's worth the extra weight to bring binoculars that can help you spot the local marine life such as dolphins, sea lions, seals, humpback whales, killer whales and southern right whales.
Be sure to get your permit, required for overnight hiking.
There are two options depending on your time and energy. Both offer a variety of elevations over sand dunes, swamps and diverse plant communities:
Total distance 35.5km
Leave the car park with a steady climb to Windy Saddle and then downhill through a beautiful ferny glade and forest to Sealers Cove. Enjoy the great views along the coast between Sealers and Refuge Cove then climb steeply over Kersops Peak to Little Waterloo Bay. From there, follow the shoreline over sand dunes and swamps to Telegraph Track, where a steady climb takes you back up to the car park.
Total distance 52.8km
Take Option 1 as far as Little Waterloo Bay and then follow the coastal track to the star of the trail, the lighthouse. It was built in 1859 from local granite and sits on its lonesome, on a rocky finger that juts into the wild Bass Strait. After leaving the lighthouse, take Telegraph Track back through The Prom's undulating interior to the car park.
