Walhalla Tramline Walk

400 m - 5 kms, 7 mins - 1.5 hrs | Walhalla | Follow the old timber tramline letting your imagination run wild as this walk carries you back in time past historic ruins and gold mines.

Travel along the contours of Walhalla’s Valley of the Gods with flora, fauna, historic gold mines and postcard-worthy views. The original tramline runs all the way from Walhalla North Gardens to Thomson Station (almost 7km), however there are multiple access points from Walhalla's town centre, making much shorter sections possible.

Once you make the steep ascent to the hilltops above Walhalla, the path is relatively flat and easy.

Between the town centre and Thomson Station, this walk forms part of the Australian Alps Walking Trail. It traverses scenic bushland and ferny glades filled with bird song.

There are other access trails from Main Rd to the tramline at the Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine car park and above the Old Brass Band Rotunda. It's easy to walk shorter sections of this trail.

Accessibility

A short section of this walk is wheelchair accessible. Join the tramline at the Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine car park, then head south 400m to the hill above the rotunda, or 700m to the hill above the town centre. The dirt path can sometimes be muddy and uneven, and often covered in leaf litter.
