Just north of Bruthen, the Tambo River widens into a scenic pool, Ramrod Swimming Hole is surrounded by hills lined with poplar and gum trees.

Evans Track crosses over a narrow point in the river, before it opens out into a wide, shallow pool, perfect for swimming in warmer weather, or enjoying a picnic on the riverbanks.

From the Great Alpine Road if you take Evans Track and cross to the far side of the river, there is a wide rocky shore, where you are guaranteed to find the best skimming rocks.
