Just off Mallacoota’s east coast is the pink granite outcrop of Gabo Island. While it's a great spot for a daytrip or picnic, spending a few nights is a superb way to unwind and get away from it all.
If you don't have your own sails, there's a water taxi service available with Mallacoota Fishing Charters & Tours, or you can charter a boat for your own remote-island adventure. Travel via boat is weather dependent, so consider being flexible with your plans.

- Watch the Little Penguins as they return to their burrows after spending a day foraging in the sea.
- Laze on the beach with a good book in hand, ramble the rockpools or snorkel in Santa Barbara Bay.
- Cast a line from the jetty and cook up a seafood feast for your dinner.
- Spend starry nights gazing upwards at a starlit dome. There are few places on earth that can claim such a magnificent skyscape thanks to gloriously low light pollution.
