News Beaches of Mallacoota
Wade through pristine waters and discover ancient cliff faces at Mallacoota’s most enchanting beaches.
The coast of Mallacoota is lined with unique rock formations, and sparkles with turquoise water. Pick a sunny day to go beach hopping, and you're likely to have a patch of sand all to yourself. More than 100km of pristine coastline also provides excellent opportunities for surfing.
Betka Beach
A five-minute drive from the town of Mallacoota, Betka Beach is where the inland waters of Betka River break through to the sea. When the river entrance is closed off, the beach becomes a natural playground with warm, still and shallow water.
There is surf to play in, rock formations to climb, fishing spots and river access. Bring along supplies and enjoy the picnic facilities. Spot scurrying hermit crabs in the shallow water and nesting areas.
The Betka Creek to Secret Beach Walk is an easy trail that offers a wonderful opportunity to observe local flora and fauna as well as stunning views of the water.
Quarry Beach
A lovely beach with an ancient vibe, bookended with high cliffs and exposed layers of rock, Quarry Beach is the perfect day trip with the kids. Set your little archaeologists free along the kilometre long beach that is flanked by cliffs up to 30m high.
Despite the numerous outcrops there is a clear space in front of the carpark ideal for swimming, whilst the beach breaks provide a nice swell for surfing. The area is a popular spot for fishing with excellent access to a range of beach, rocks, reef and headland.
Quarry Beach is a 10-minute drive south of Mallacoota town centre.
Secret Beach
Mallacoota’s signature turquoise coastline and unique rock formations continue to shine at Secret Beach.
Just a 9-minute drive south of Mallacoota, this small yet pristine cove stretches for about a kilometre, peppered with rock formations. Yours might be the only footprints on the sand. A highlight is the hidden sea cave, only accessible at low tide. Walk left (north) from the beach entrance to find the sea cave.
For those feeling more adventurous, you can walk the 8km from Betka Beach to Secret Beach, a picturesque section of the Mallacoota Coastal Walk charactised by sea views for the journey.
