1. Mt Worth State Park
Lace up your runners and head for the walking tracks weaving through mountain ash and blue gum forest. This oasis of ferny glades and lush waterfalls is the perfect spot for a picnic or a breath of fresh eucalypt-scented air.
2. Dine at Hogget Kitchen
Head to the hatted Hogget Kitchen for a celebration of Gippsland’s bountiful goodness. Marvel at fresh rock flathead & King George whiting from nearby inlets, or local, grass-fed meat butchered, cured or smoked to its succulent best in-house.
Head Chef, Trev, is the son of a butcher and has a nose-to-tail appreciation of food. His charcuterie boards are next level, with wood-smoked and slow cooked ingredients made from Trev’s own hand-built smoker.
3. Stock up at Warragul Farmers' Market
Get up early and get yourself down to the monthly Warragul Farmers’ Market at the gorgeous Civic Park (third Saturday of every month), where the farmers of the region will be moving their excellent produce – organic vegetables, artisan bread, preserves, fresh fruit, plants and more.
4. Yarragon
With an unmistakable village feel, glorious heritage buildings and a deluge of shops to potter and browse, Yarragon’s charms extend well beyond a leg-stretch on the highway. 6. Visit Mirboo North
This charming artsy village nestled in the fabled hills of the Strzelecki Ranges is bristled with warm cafes, shops to browse and the Grand Ridge Brewery. It’s also the starting point of the lush Grand Ridge Rail Trail (13km to Boolarra).
7. Narracan Falls
This block waterfall, wider that it is long, is short but thunderous. Fringing the falls is the beautiful Narracan Falls Streamside Reserve, a large grassy area, perfect for picnics.
8. Trafalgar Holden Museum
This quirky museum in Trafalgar celebrates Australia's Holden heritage from the 1850s. It's not just a love affair with cars - there are saddles, military artefacts, golf carts and aero engines.
9. Morwell River Falls
Hidden off an unsuspecting gravel road is the picnic-perfect Morwell River Falls. An easy walk from the car park takes you through a pocket of stunning native bushland, through the dappled light of the mountain ash forest.
The path meanders alongside a series of cascades of the tranquil Morwell River. Reach the wide pool at the bottom of the largest fall for rock scrambling and toe-dipping.
10. Lyrebird Forest Walk
Discover a little piece of magic on a peaceful walk which winds through scented temperate rainforest. The 4.8km loop walk (1:30 hours) weaves through beautiful eucalypt forest near Mirboo North.
