Things to do in Traralgon

  • Take a walk around the wide, leafy streets of the town centre, keeping a watch out for gorgeous heritage buildings like the majestic Traralgon Post Office, replete with gold-rush-era glory.
  • Tuck into some of the best restaurants and cafes you'll find in Victoria's east - Traralgon knows how to make you linger for longer. Arrive on an empty belly.
  • Discover lush parks and green spaces. There are plenty of leafy reserves around town, or jump in the car to find forested areas laced with walking trails in nearby national and state parks.
  • Catch a show at the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre for a star-studded line up of contemporary music, theatre and comedy performances.
  • Set out on the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail which will take you on a village-studded journey to Stratford, or weave through forested walks at nearby Tarra Bulga National Park or Morwell National Park.
  • Take the kids to the Gippsland Miniature Railway to ride on the mini steam and diesel trains through leafy Newman Park. The trains run the fourth Sunday of the month (weather permitting).
  • Get a different perspective of the changing landscapes of the Latrobe Valley on a scenic flight with Bandicoot Adventure Flights.

Wineries & breweries

In the industrial east of Traralgon, Good Land Brewing are slinging sticky wings and more-ish beer food to accompany their innovative local brews.

Just out of town, in Glengarry North, you’ll find one of Gippsland’s big drawcards. Narkoojee is a 5 Red Star Winery as rated by James Halliday. Critics consistently praise their bold reds and complex chardonnay, which you can enjoy with a meal in their restaurant overlooking the vines.

Traralgon is flush with motels, hotels and caravan parks thanks to a thriving business events and conference scene. Many motels and hotels in Traralgon flank the Princes Highway. Parks & gardens

The bustling town is given plenty of breathing space with masses of leafy parks and gardens. Roll out your picnic rug or take a stroll along the banks of meandering Traralgon Creek in the oasis of calm that is Victory Park. Studded with sculptures and shady bench-seat retreats, this manicured park hosts regular music events and outdoor festivals amongst the trees.

Traralgon Railway Reserve is a sumptuous bushland retreat, laced with lakeside walking tracks and bird song. The wetland is a busy hub for ducks and water birds, especially during the feeding frenzy of dawn and dusk.

Just out of town in Tyers Park, you can take the 400m stroll (10 minutes one way) to the craggy Petersons Lookout for dizzying views over Tyers River Gorge toward the Latrobe Valley.
