A land of makers and creators.

Nestled in the green hills, bucolic countryside and mountain ash forests, West Gippsland artists are making, painting, sculpting and creating.

Discover Town & Country Gallery (Yarragon), a dreamy collection of paintings, sculptures, hand-blown glass and jewellery, or visit the WAS Gallery (Warragul) for exhibitions featuring oil and watercolour paintings, ceramics, jewellery and object design, photography and illustration. The West Gippsland Arts Centre welcomes world-class performers, musicians and comedians to their stage and hosts regular art exhibitions.

Get hands-on with Helen Timbury Design (Drouin) for a full-day workshop to learn the trade of linocut artwork, so you can make your own prints, gift cards, calendars, bags or wall hangings. There are also brush and bubble workshops and art for sale at the oh-so-lovely Violet and Ivvy (Warragul), best enjoyed with coffee or a cocktail.

Laurie Collins surrounded by his sculptures

Head for the hills and wander in wonder through the Laurie Collins Sculpture Garden (Jindivick) where recycled materials are transformed into works of art, or The Serigraph Gallery (Neerim South, by appointment) where an eclectic mix of modern art, paintings and fine furniture is on display.

Check out the Rokeby Makers Market (2nd Saturday of the month, Sep – May) or the Warragul Arts Market (3rd Saturday of the month, year-round) for magnificent homemade wares.

Across weekends in Apr and Nov, a dozen artists open the doors of their studios at Open Studios West Gippsland. You can meet the makers, watch them at work and hear the stories behind their pieces.
