Civic Park, Warragul | An illuminated ground space imagining an immense tree that may once have stood here.
At first glance, you may think a sink hole has formed on the grassy green hills of Civic Park, but take a closer look to see this thought-provoking artwork.
The piece shows a space in the ground, its outline illuminated. The absent space is a “memory of light”, an imagining of where an immense tree might once have been rooted the land. The work commemorates the mighty mountain ash forests that once covered this area, and the role the early timber industry played in the region’s heritage.
