A favourite for families with young children, Cape Paterson Bay Beach is best known for its large rock pool and relatively gentle swells.
To the west are the surf beaches (First Surf and Second Surf Beaches). A sandy path takes you from the car park to beach, which is popular for surfers, bathers and those with a penchant for fishing.
The beach is patrolled on weekends between December and Easter. Do be vigilant about rips in this area and steer clear of the rocks at each end of the beach.
Cape Paterson Rock Pool
A highlight of Cape Paterson Bay Beach is the rock pool creating a gentle patch of ocean for families to swim and play in. The man-made structure was built in the 1960s and is just as popular today; families make a beeline to the inviting rocks on hot days. Be sure to bring your snorkel for a glimpse of underwater life, or bait up and cast a line from the rocky makeshift jetty.
Accessibility
There is designated accessible parking on all three sealed car parks off Surf Beach Road.
Cape Paterson Foreshore Walk is suitable for wheelchair users for the kilometre stretch between Surf Beach Rd and the main track, as well as between the boat ramp and the surf beach car park.
