The three main tour routes and optional side trips that make up the Aberfeldy Back Road Touring Routes are considered one of Victoria's best four wheel drive experiences.

This self-guided four wheel drive touring route combines rich history, spectacular mountain views and some of the Great Dividing Range's most scenic driving routes.

Travel through remote bushlands, across stone river crossings, past old gold mining settlements and see heritage sites and relics along the way. Interpretive signs explain the story of miners in search of their fortune.

Four wheel drive enthusiasts can immerse themselves in nature with side trips for walking, and lots of camping and fishing opportunities.

This tour is best done during the warmer months, when all the roads are open. If travelling in winter or spring, some sections of the tour will be seasonally closed

The main sections of the route are easy to medium, with some side trips graded up to very difficult. The total length is up to approximately 300 kilometres depending on the route you take. The routes can take between one to five days' driving depending on which routes you explore.

Visitors can choose to camp in Walhalla, Edwards Hill, Donnelly's Creek Recreation Ground, Matlock, Meringtons Campground, Junction Hut, Jorgenson Hut, Little O'Tooles Campground, O'Tooles Campground, Goonans Hut, Store Point Hut, Comet Flat, and Jack Scotts.
