  3. Unpretentious Luxury at Carrajung Estate

A vineyard that is its own destination: Carrajung Estate’s luxurious accommodation, fine dining restaurant, cellar door and stunning country surroundings mean you’ll never want to step foot off the property.

Formerly known as Toms Cap Vineyard, Carrajung Estate was reimagined by Ivy Huang and Rebeka Morgan as a haven that puts unpretentious luxury at the forefront. Together they have made sustainability and social consciousness a focus of Carrajung’s ethos.

A solid 2-hour drive east of Melbourne (about a half hour south of Traralgon or 45 minutes from Sale) you’ll find the idyllic property, boasting delectable meals, luscious wines and chic accommodation.

Dining

Chef Pat Haney learned how to cook by watching his grandmother prepare hearty meals from ingredients sourced locally in San Diego. You’ll be thanking Pat’s granny when you sample his deliciously decadent menu. With a focus on local ingredients and ethical sourcing practices, Pat will leave you entranced with such delights as twice-baked duck leg and bay bug risotto. The menu is always fresh and exciting, changing with whatever is in season.

And the perk of being located at a winery? Every effort has gone into pairing the meals with the fine wines produced from the estate.

Overlooking those vine-laden slopes, you can be excused for being a little distracted from your meal by those seductive restaurant views.

Accommodation

The onsite cottages provide serene views of the vineyard and rolling hills synonymous with the classic Gippsland landscape.

There's a theme of unpretentious luxury, in the thoughtful design and stylish furnishings. There is the Scandi elegance of The Nest (perfect for lovers) or the rural escape of The Lodge (ideal for a group of friends or family). You can melt into the outdoor bath as you admire the sun setting on the vineyard, or fall asleep in front of a cosy fire.

The grounds are yours to explore, with romantic spots for star gazing, scenic vineyard strolls and a gorgeous gaggle of farm animals who call the estate home – expect to meet chickens, alpacas, goats and pigs. You can even picnic on the grounds or among the vines.

Cellar Door

Exciting news for those who’d rather focus on the grapes - the newly renovated cellar door is opening for summer 2023. Wine buffs can enjoy guided wine tastings of the batches produced from estate-grown wines across past and current vintages.

The vineyard has been producing star-quality wines for decades now, so don’t be surprised if you can’t resist taking a few bottles home.

Weddings & Events

In a setting this divine, it’s not surprising Carrajung Estate is in high demand as a wedding and event venue. The experienced staff offer part or full-service event coordination, which means every detail is taken care of on your special day. It would be impossible not to say ‘I do’ in front of such an enchanting vineyard backdrop.

There are multiple venue options with cellar door or larger dining room, and facilities also available for corporate events.
