  3. Saddle Up for Gippsland's Newest Coastal Adventure

Big rides, salty air and plenty of reasons to stop along the way - the Bass Coast has just become even more bike-friendly.

The new 14km Wonthaggi to Inverloch Trail is now open, connecting with the existing 23km Bass Coast Rail Trail to create an epic 37km ride from Woolamai to Inverloch. It's Victoria's only coastal rail trail, now bigger, better and bursting with unforgettable places to explore.

Whether you're chasing a cruisy day out, planning a weekend escape or looking for your next cycling challenge, this is one ride where the journey is every bit as rewarding as the destination.

Starting in Woolamai, you'll soon find yourself rolling through green farmland before the landscape opens to reveal the wild beauty of Bass Strait. As the trail hugs the coast, it's impossible not to stop for a photo or two.

Next up is Kilcunda – a tiny seaside village with a big personality. Refuel with a barista-made coffee, browse local produce and handmade treasures, or settle in for lunch overlooking the ocean.

Don't miss a stroll across the iconic Kilcunda Trestle Bridge, where weathered timber, crashing waves and endless coastal views combine to create one of Gippsland's most photographed landmarks.

Back in the saddle, the trail winds towards Wonthaggi, where history meets a thriving café culture. Grab brunch, browse the growing collection of boutiques and specialty stores, or step back in time at the fascinating State Coal Mine, where underground tours reveal the stories that shaped this once-booming mining town. It's the perfect place to stretch your legs before tackling the final leg of the ride.

Then comes the newest stretch - a smooth ride through peaceful bushland, wetlands and rolling countryside that leads straight into Inverloch.

And what a finish line it is.

Reward yourself with fish and chips on the foreshore, linger over lunch at one of the town's vibrant cafés, or swap your cycling shoes for bare feet and cool off in the calm waters of Anderson Inlet.

Feeling adventurous? Learn to surf, explore the dramatic Bunurong Coast or discover where dinosaurs once roamed at Dinosaur Dreaming. If relaxing is more your pace, simply wander the foreshore, browse the boutiques or settle in to watch one of Inverloch's spectacular sunsets.

The beauty of this new trail is that there's no wrong way to experience it. Ride the full 37km from Woolamai to Inverloch, tackle one section at a time, or turn it into a weekend escape with beachside accommodation, great food and plenty of time to explore.

So pack the bikes, charge the e-bike and gather your crew. From rugged coastline and heritage bridges to welcoming cafés, beautiful beaches and unforgettable coastal towns around every bend, Gippsland's newest cycling adventure is calling – and it's one you'll want to ride again and again.
