Sitting at the gateway to Wilsons Promontory, Yanakie is a coastal tourist town that services nature-lovers and holiday makers making the pilgrimage to the wondrous national park. It is also a Mecca for boating and fishing enthusiasts, and ranks highly as a family-friendly destination.

Things to do Yanakie

There is more accommodation here than you can poke a tea tree branch at - from deluxe B&Bs and self contained apartments, to group lodgings and family friendly caravan parks.

The town has a general store with your run-of-the-mill supermarket items and takeaway food. The petrol station is your last chance to refuel before entering the Wilsons Promontory (there is a general store and cafe inside the park, at Tidal River).

A children’s playground at Lance Moon Park helps to keep the little ones occupied while you make plans for your nature-based adventure.

Swimming, Fishing & Boating

As Yanakie is near the isthmus of the peninsula, a few minutes’ drive in either direction will have you at Corner Inlet (east) or Shallow Inlet (west). Both are great locations for swimming and fishing, and Shallow Inlet is a wind-surfer’s dream.

There are boat ramps at Duck Point, by the caravan park at Corner Inlet, and Shallow Inlet boasts a few boat entry points.

Walking

Get a bearing of your surrounds by taking the walk from the car park at the end of Foley Road to Duck Point. The walks in the northern section of Wilsons Promontory (Miller’s Landing, Vereker Outlook) are readily accessed from Yanakie.
