The town punches above its weight for the sheer number of studios and galleries. Browse ever-changing exhibitions and galleries full of jewellery, prints, paintings and gifts. The studio of celebrated children's author, Alison Lester, is a must. Pop in to Ride the Wild Goat for furniture and artwork made from salvaged goods.

The Great Southern Rail Trail passes through the centre of town, a nod to the trail’s past as an operational railway line. The 72km route between Leongatha and Port Welshpool traverses scenic countryside, over historic bridges and alongside ambling rivers.

Around 7km out of town toward Foster is Mt Nicoll Lookout. Dreamy panoramas stretch for miles across the sapphire-hued Corner Inlet, to the looming mountains of Wilsons Promontory.
