Updated February 2022. Tourism is an important industry for Gippsland. It generates an estimated $1 billion for our local economy. The region attracted a record seven million visitors in the year ending March 2019.
This Plan will be the first step in identifying opportunities to strengthen our tourism offerings, lift visitor numbers and improve the resilience and adaptive capacity of Gippsland.

OUR AIM: To support the growth of the visitor economy in Gippsland.
OUR ROLE: As a Visitor Economy Partnership, we provide leadership and management capability to deliver marketing that stimulates demand, as well as facilitating the supply of improved visitor experiences.
We will build strong governance, team capability, collaborative relationships with tourism operators, traditional owners, land managers, government and other key stakeholders.
The Gippsland Regional Events Strategy is a joint project of Destination Gippsland and Gippsland's six local government authorities: Bass Coast Shire Council, Baw Baw Shire Council, East Gippsland Shire Council, Latrobe City Council, South Gippsland Shire Council and Wellington Shire Council and the Victorian State Government in collaboration with event stakeholders across the region and state.

The Towards 2030 Gippsland Food, Drink & Agritourism Strategy aims to position Gippsland as the go-to epicurean travel destination in Australia by 2030, celebrated for its diverse, distinct, and authentic food, drink and agritourism encounters.
This Strategy focuses on enhancing exposure for Gippsland, augmenting visitor conversion, and creating appetising and immersive food, drink and agritourism experiences to drive economic contribution to the region’s overall visitor economy in an impactful, inclusive, and sustainable way.

Gippsland recognises the importance and benefits of building the region as an accessible tourism destination. The Gippsland Accessible Tourism Plan is a collaborative approach between Destination Gippsland, all six Local Governments in Gippsland, Tourism Victoria and relevant partners to ensure Gippsland’s diverse tourism product can be enjoyed by all.
The primary aim of the Gippsland Visitor Services Strategy is to set a strategic direction that will not only improve visitor servicing across the region but also enhance the overall visitor experience.
This involves creating an environment conducive to increased spending, longer stays, and higher levels of visitor satisfaction. By achieving these outcomes, the Strategy seeks to elevate Gippsland’s position as a leading destination in the Australian tourism industry.
